Guilford College Choir Tour

The Guilford College Choir has a long and strong tradition of touring at the beginning of Spring Break. The College Choir in an unauditioned ensemble of 40 singers who major in a cross-section of disciplines across campus, including, but certainly not limited to Music. Students make life-long memories on these trips, but the primary purpose of the Choir Tour is to perform at schools and churches or meeting houses for alumni, friends and prospective students. Music faculty work with staff from Admissions and Advancement in addition to alumni organizations like AFOG and GAAN in order to plan and fund the annual tour.

The Choir Tour is funded primarily by the Music Department budget, student fees and donations. The more we raise from donors, the less we need to ask students to contribute their own money, and the less we need to use funds from our academic program that could otherwise be used toward purchasing music, equipment and other supplies that enhance the student experience in the classroom.

Recent tours have cost anywhere from $17,000-25,000. We are seeking to raise $5000 at this time. A donation of $200, for example, will help provide a pizza dinner for the choir or for snacks on the tour bus. $1000 donation will help defray the cost of lodging or the motorcoach. Every little bit helps!

The Guilford College Choir Tour provides an opportunity for students to travel, to bond as an ensemble, and to make life-long memories. The choir has the chance to perform their concert programs multiple times, each time finding greater nuance and meaning in the music they've learned. These types of musical experiences are beneficial to student retention. Furthermore, we get to connect with Alumni and Friends at our concerts, and we get to share our love for Guilford with prospective students, their teachers and their parents.
