Gifts to Art contribute to...
We hope that you will take this opportunity to acknowledge your deep relationship with the Art Department by making any gift that you are able to make. We will use the funds to support programming--including events like Free Press, the return of the Juried Student Art Show, and senior thesis. Our goals for donor funds also include supporting faculty research, student initiatives, and classroom materials.
We are looking to increase our support base in numbers of givers as well as gifted dollars. Our March Madness goal is $1500.
Health and Sustainability - We utilize innovative practices to improve health and sustainability in our studios. In the darkroom, toxic and expensive chemistry has been replaced with Caffenol, a coffee-based developer, and vinegar as stop bath. In ceramics, locally-sourced wood fuels the wood kiln. In the painting studio and print shop, vegetable oil replaces many toxic solvents in most applications. The sculpture area emphasizes reused materials and non-toxic processes.
Rigorous Senior Thesis - Our full-year thesis program includes individual studio spaces, full-faculty critiques, a co-requisite professional development, and a Spring exhibition that is planned, curated, installed, and promoted by thesis students.
The Alumni Art Exchange is a triennial exhibition, reunion and weekend of programming produced by the Art Gallery and the Art Department.
Art After Guilford is a symposium in which invited alumni share experiences and advice with current students. For each event we invite alumni who are newly graduated, in graduate school, emerging and established professionals.
Guilford College Art Gallery - Close cooperation with the Guilford Art Gallery connects students with an extensive permanent collection, traveling exhibitions, visiting artist programming, and internship opportunities.
Annual Events include the Juried Student Art Exhibition, Draw-a-thon, Bowl-a-thon, student-run kiln firings, Art on the Quad (AOTQ), the Senior Thesis Open Studio, and community-engaged projects to connect art students with the community.
Free-Press - This periodic public printmaking open house brings the Guilford community together to share thoughts, and voice hopes and frustrations through live, interactive printmaking.
Extensive Art History offerings include Arts of Africa, Asia, and the Americas; Modern Art; Contemporary Art; Identity, Race, and Gender; History of Photography; History of Portraits and Self-Portraits; and an interdisciplinary studies course called Notions of Beauty in the Twentieth-Century.
Faculty Artist/Scholar/Educators - The art faculty are dedicated educators, accomplished in their fields, and professionally active.
